Story
Remembering His Life
Gary Lee Brooks was born on October 13, 1940, the youngest of 8 siblings. From a young age, he was known for his mischievous spirit and a knack for adventure, always surprising those around him with stories of his past.
Gary worked for Republic Airlines and later as a millwright at Smurfit, where he earned a reputation for his skill, hard work, and ability to fix anything in his own unique way. His garage was a testament to this, filled with every tool imaginable. Gary's sense of humor was legendary—gruff but lovable, always bringing smiles to those around him.
He was a man of many passions. Gary loved flannel coats and was famous for making a spaghetti dish that was second to none. He had a love-hate relationship with his yard, spending countless hours on it, grumbling all the while, but always striving to make it a beautiful space. For 36 years, he worked tirelessly to turn his property into a home and a place of pride.
Gary shared 57 wonderful years with his wife, Nancy. Together, they enjoyed trips to the Oregon coast, train rides, and countless adventures that created lifelong memories. Family was everything to Gary, and he was the best uncle, cherished by his many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He had a gift for bringing people together through stories, photos, and heartfelt emails that celebrated their family history and kept their memories alive.
Gary was deeply loved by his daughter, Tinae, and partner Robert; his son, Gary and wife Scherree; and his grandson, Isaac, and wife Carrie. He passed away on November 26, 2024, and will be missed and remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Even in his final battle with cancer, Gary's strength, resilience, and love for his family never wavered. His legacy lives on in the stories he shared, the memories he made, and the love he gave to all who knew him.
